EARTH DAY CELEBRATION IN SCHOOL
The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the earth.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it is celebrated around the world with a beautiful message, “Our continuing efforts in our everyday lives will make this beautiful planet thrive.” Earth Day is a proof that even one person can make a global impact in a positive way. Taking this message forward, the students of primary wing of New Era Public School Dwarka, enthusiastically participated in a myriad of activities to commemorate our benevolent Mother Earth. To start with, the students learnt the importance of the Earth Day and the need to preserve and conserve their self-sustaining planet. A special assembly highlighted the importance of protecting the planet and encouraged students to take small steps to make a difference. Dressed in colourful attires, depicting mother earth and her natural resources, the students of class V B very beautifully depicted a tug of war between pollution and the Earth’s eco-warrior, where pollution shouts ‘I am everywhere! I’m winning! But the eco warriors retaliate saying, Not anymore! We won’t let you win. We’re Earth’s eco- warriors .We will care for our Earth!’ The act depicted the impact of pollution on earth and the harm its doing to its trees, rivers, air and how everything is choking. After this act, the students took a pledge to take care of mother earth.
The assembly ended with the students listening to a recorded message from the honourable Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs Rekha Gupta, urging everyone to take a pledge to collectively keep all lights off on the evening of 22nd April for 5 minutes to give respite to Mother Earth.
Students actively participated in all activities, demonstrating enthusiasm and a strong commitment to environmental protection. The various activities conducted in the primary wing were:
LKG-Head Gear Making activity
UKG-Plant a Seed activity
Class I- Badge Making
Class II- Nature Walk
Class III-Vegetable Printing on cut-out of the Earth
Class IV-Dustbin Making Activity using disposables
Class V- Placard Making
The Earth Day celebration was a resounding success, bringing together students to promote environmental consciousness and sustainable living. The event served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect our planet and inspired the little ones to adopt greener practices in their daily lives. The thought of the day –“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; but we borrow it from our children,” so aptly wrapped up the event. New Era Public School has always believed in grooming the learners to become alert citizens who can contribute positively in safeguarding and protecting this planet by instilling the belief that each one of them can become ‘Guardian of the Globe’ .The Earth Day celebration fostered a sense of responsibility and instilled in students the importance of protecting our planet for future generations not just on one day but everyday because the Earth is not just a planet ,it’s our home, our mother, our future.
